〜まげしまについて〜
種子島の西方12キロの位置にある馬毛島。日本で二番目に大きい無人島であるこの島は、「絶滅の恐れのある地域個体群」に指定されているマゲシカや国の天然記念物であるオカヤドカリ、準絶滅危惧種のミサゴなどが生息しています。また、馬毛島沖の海ではトビウオやキビナゴがよく獲れ、種子島の漁師たちから「宝の島」と呼ばれています。
この島を防衛省は2030年までに軍事基地にすることを計画しています。現在も24時間体制の建設工事が行われており、もともとあった森林はほとんど伐採され、生き物たちは住む場所を追われています。
〜イベント内容〜
話したり手を動かしたりしながら、馬毛島のことを知るワークショップです。
ものづくりを通して馬毛島の自然や生き物について知るワークショップです。
①のおしゃべりタイムでは、島じまスタンディング(@shimajima_ishii)作「馬毛島のことをもっと知りたい図」を囲んで、馬毛島の歴史や現状について話します。
②馬毛島にいた・いるいきものたちの絵を描きます。
材料（絵の具 、色鉛筆、マーカー、のり、はさみ等）はこちらで用意してありますので、手ぶらで来ていただいても問題ございません。
こだわりがある場合は、ご自身の材料を持参していただいても、もちろん構いません。

この地図ワークショップは今後も続けていく予定です。
今後も馬毛島にあるさまざまなものを描いていき、最終的にはみんなが描いたものを集めて一つの地図を完成させます。出来上がった地図は、展示をしたりデモの場に持っていきます。

Mageshima is located 12 kilometers west of Tanegashima. As Japan’s second-largest uninhabited island, it is home to the Mageshika deer—designated as a “regionally endangered population”—as well as the land hermit crab, a national natural monument, and the osprey, a near threatened species. In addition, flying fish and Japanese anchovies are commonly caught in the waters off Mageshima, leading fishermen from Tanegashima to call it the “Island of Treasures.”
The Ministry of Defense plans to turn this island into a military base by 2030. Construction is currently underway 24 hours a day, and the original forest has been almost entirely cleared, forcing the island’s wildlife from their habitats.
~About the event~
Join the workshop to learn about Mageshima and its nature and wildlife through conversation and crafting.
During the chat session, we’ll gather around the map created by Shimajima Standing (@shimajima_ishii) to discuss the island’s history and current situation.
After that, we’ll draw the creatures that have lived on or currently live on Mageshima.
We’ll have materials ready (paint, colored pencils, markers, glue, scissors, etc.), so you’re welcome to come empty-handed.
Of course, if you have specific preferences, you’re also welcome to bring your own materials.

We plan to continue holding this map workshop in the future.
We’ll keep drawing various things from Mageshima, and eventually compile everyone’s drawings to complete the map together. The finished map will be exhibited and taken to protests.
